Holiday Jazz Gumbo!

As the summer season nears an end, Philadelphia continues to be a hotbed of events that recognize and celebrate the current and former artists that perform the classical improvisations of music commonly referred to as jazz. This Labor Day weekend will be a fantastic time to get out and support this music! Philly will be ablaze with the sounds & rhythms of jazz. In addition to a constant menu of local venue offerings, two significant events will occur over the weekend of September 1st thru 4th. The Mount Airy Cultural Center, with the endorsement of The Council of Jazz Advocates, Inc., presents The 16th Annual Tony Williams Scholarship Jazz Festival, while over the same period, The Tranestop Resource Institute presents the initial Coltrane Jazz Festival "Giant Steps Over Philly", a multi-day and multi-venue, community-based celebration of the life and music of John Coltrane. Check out the line-ups at Leon Mitchell's site!
